Dental Implants or Bridges: Which is Right for You?

Dental implants and bridges are two very different but effective solutions for missing teeth. Deciding which one is right for you, however, can be tricky. Whether you choose a dental implant or a dental bridge is going to depend on a variety of different factors, and will require some understanding of how both of these solutions work.
Dental Implants
A dental implant has the feel and the function of a natural tooth. Implants are permanently anchored to your gums and jawbone and therefore have no impact on the surrounding teeth. They can help to preserve the integrity of the bone structure in your face and they are not susceptible to tooth decay. Implants are, however, more expensive than bridges and they do require minor surgery.

Bridges
A bridge is used to replace a missing tooth by attaching a prosthetic filler tooth to two adjacent natural teeth. The filler tooth is cemented or bonded to the supporting teeth and then functions just like a regular tooth. Dental bridges are less costly than implants and require no surgery or healing time. On the other hand, they do require the removal of enamel from the supporting teeth, putting you at greater risk for tooth decay and gum disease.

Which One Should You Choose?
It is important to speak to a dental professional before deciding which solution for missing teeth is right for you, as they can let you know whether you are a good candidate for either option.
