Mexico Dental Mission, June 6-12, 2016
The Ivory Dental Centre staff (including 4 dentists, 1 hygienist and 8 dental students) spent a week in San Quintin, Mexico from June 6th to the 12th.
San Quintin is in the Baja region of Mexico and produces strawberries, raspberries and tomatoes. There is a large manual workforce residing there who cannot afford any dental treatment because of financial limitations.
We treated at least 100 patients a day, and a typical work day was from 9:00 AM – 11:00 PM (14 hours). People started waiting in line at 5:00 AM and we did not turn anyone away. On our second to last day we worked from 9:00 AM – 2:00 AM!
We saw mostly families of children and adults. We did restorative dentistry (fillings), extractions, scaling and even about 30 root canals! It was a very humbling but rewarding experience for all who went and helped!
